Social Studies Thursday Update

6th Grade went to the library and researched nations from Europe.
7th Grade had a lengthy discussion of American involvement in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, and how that affects our trading policy and political life today.

8th Grade took notes about the dawn of the industrial age and read about Tobacco in NC.

Wednesday Social Studies Update

7th Grade read and discussed SE Asia and Vietnam. We completed a simple diagram that displayed the main ideas of the reading. Tomorrow, we are going to learn about points of view of the Vietnam Era.

6th Grade manipulated information about the nations of Europe in groups. We used the information to create charts and graphs.

8th Grade discussed the points of view of various groups in the Post-Reconstruction Era.

All three grades took tests today. For the rest of the week, the students are working on the following topics:

8th Grade- Post-Reconstruction... rise of industry and decline of agriculture.

6th Grade- comparing and contrasting Europe.

Science Update for 12-14-09

All classes: finish note-taking worksheets for the chapter

Parents: I will be attending a basketball tournament on December 16th through December 20th. Assignments will not be posted over those dates, but assignments will be given, so check with your child. NO homework assignment will be given on Thursday or Friday, unless they don't complete the assignment in class. Have a happy holiday! And see you all next year!

Social Studies Friday Update

All classes will have a test on Tuesday.
7th Grade- We divided into 5 teams and drew posters illustrating the notes for the test.
8th and 6th Grade were in the lab today doing computer assignments. The particular lessons are included on the blog.

6th Grade Computer Lab Assigment

8th grade: 3 worksheet packet due!

Social Studies Update for Thursday

I have postponed the tests for all classes until Monday. 7th Grade discussed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and Southwest Asia, as well as the relationship to this region to the 9-11 attacks. 8th Grade completed all Reconstruction notes and started discussing the test. 6th Grade ended their notes on the Southern Cone of Argentina.

Science Update for 12-9-09

All classes:
Chapter review WS packets --- you may also look over the study guide and re-inforcement workbook pages for you selected chapter AND you may also go over and answer the selected pages from the Science Notebook workbook. ALL classes will have a test on Friday!

7th grade: extra credit assignment on Mitosis and Meiosis (due 12-18-09)
8th grade: worksheets packet assigned on Monday on germs and cells - due Friday!

Tuesday Social Studies Update

All classes will have tests on Friday! I handed back several papers and the students looked at their work folders.

7th Grade read today and talked about the governments and economies of SW Asia and why the United States has so many ties to the region.

8th Grade has now started the second phase of Reconstruction (called Congressional Reconstruction). We read several pages of the book and discussed them and there were some brief notes.

6th Grade has started the study of Argentina. Yesterday we wrote a persuasive speech about preserving the rain forest, and that assignment was collected today.

7th grade: nothing assigned
6th grade: finish rock crossword packet

MONDAY'S assignments:
8th grade: 3-worksheet packet on germs, virus, bacteria, cell - DUE friday!
7th grade: Finish DNA (color, cut out, tape together) --- chapter 4 section worksheets due
6th grade: attempt rock crossword packet --- EFFORT must be shown - will be given word bank on Tuesday and will complete the puzzle then

PROJECTED TESTS: all classes will have chapter test on Friday!

Monday Social Studies Update

All students in each class had the opportunity to discuss their progress report grades and any missing assignments. This was done at the start of each class.

All classes took notes and did readings. It is likely that each class will have a test on Wednesday.

Subject matter: 7th Grade is studying SW Asia and the three important western religions, 8th Grade is looking at Presidential and Congressional Reconstruction, 6th Grade is studying Argentina and the interior of South America.

Wednesday Social Studies Update

7th Grade- We discussed similarities and differences of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There is no homework.

6th Grade- completed the comparison of statistical information about Venezuela and Colombia, then we saw a film about the North part of South America. There is no homework.

8th Grade- We started Reconstruction with a handout and we read and took some notes. There is no homework.

Social Studies Update for Tuesday

7th Grade-turned in yesterday's homework and saw a film about Mesopotamia. We started reading about Judaism and concluded our notes on the first section.

6th Grade- started a new section today about Argentina. We outline the upcoming section and read some of it silently and then we looked at a chart comparing Venezuela and Colombia.

8th Grade- took a test on the Civil War.
